The Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley, Inc. was founded in 1975 by a group of residents of Schoharie County who were disturbed by the plight of the many starved, abused, and stray animals in this area. ASSV is a not-for-profit organization. It is a no-kill shelter, comprised entirely of volunteer members and Board of Directors with the exception of the shelter manager and support staff.
The goal of the ASSV is to alleviate stray animal suffering and to maintain a shelter to house, feed, and care for these animals until safe and loving homes are found for them. ASSV also strives to educate the public to spay or neuter their pets to eliminate the problem of unwanted offspring.
